Field stripping the H&K USP 45 is very easy; in fact it’s easier than a 1911 .45.
1. The first step is to remove the magazine from the firearm, clear the chamber and make sure the safety is not engaged.
2. Next locate the slide release on the left side of the firearm. The release passes thru the firearms frame and locks the slide in-place. Look on the right side of the firearm and you will see the hole for the slide release next to: Hackler & Koch GmbH.
3. Pick the firearm up with your dominant hand. Hold it as pictured in the photo. Using one hand only, pull the slide release back until the square notch on the slide is aligned with the slide release on the left side. You will notice a square notch appear on the slide release.
4. Next push the slide release out from the right side. You can also pull it out from the left as noted in the photo. Fully remove the slide release.
5. Allow the slide to comeback into position. Then pull the slide forward off of the polymer frame. The two should release easily.
6. Now the two are separate, notice the spring/buffer assembly on the bottom of the side. Make note of how the buffer is attached and which side is facing up. This will help with reassembly. Remove the buffer assembly by compressing and pulling up. The assembly should come loose easily.
7. Next remove the barrel from the bottom of the slide. It will drop out easily. Pay special attention to the crown as not to damage it.
That’s it, your gun is now field stripped. Reverse the process to assemble.
